Maha Shivaratri festival in Pashupatinath Temple
Maha Shivaratri means ‘The Great Night of Lord Shiva’. On this day, Shiva and Parvati got married. This is the most famous and celebrated Hindu Festival of Nepal. All Shiva shrines become the places of visit on this day. But the greatest attraction of all is held by the temple of Pashupatinath in Kathmandu. Hundreds of thousands of devout Hindus worship of Shiva Lingam to appease Lord Shiva by offering flowers, garlands, Bel Patra (leaves of Bet f rub), fruits, coins by chanting prayers and hymns. Among them are a large number of Holy Man (Sadhus) from Nepal and India. Many devotees like to keep awake for the whole night keeping vigilance over an oil lamp brunt to please Lord Shiva. Many people are seen keeping awake similarly over a bonfire in the localities. A large number of people had gathered around Tundikhel to observe the Shivaratri and Nepal Army Day on this day.
Why Maha Shivaratri festival?
- It is believed that Lord Shiva revealed his Lingam form on the day of Maha Shivaratri. The devotees perform the ‘Rudra Abhishekham’ at midnight to worship the formless Shiva.
- Lord Shiva and Parvati got married on the day of Mahashivaratri.
- The night of Maha Shivaratri Lord Shiva is said to reveal Tandav; the dance of primordial conception, preservation, sustenance and destruction.
- Parvati performed strict penance for Lord Shiva on the day of Maha Shivaratri.

23rd of November 2015: Agnes arrived to Kathmandu in the afternoon. She is Blandine’s trekking partner for Mardi Himal Trek. They know each other who are school friends. We did trek preparation in Thamel (tourist center).

Kumari Ghar after Earthquke
Nepal Government officially reopened Earthquake hit Unesco World Heritage sites in Kathmandu valley on Monday after 25th of April. Nepal Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Kripaskhur Sherpa has urged the foreign countries to send their nationals in Nepal to help review the tourism business which was affected by Gorkaha quake on 25th of April, 2015.
