Kanchenjanga trekking

Mt. Kanchenjanga

The ‘Lumba Sumba Pass’ connects Kanchenjunga to Makalu Trek on the Great Himalayan Trail in the Himalayas of Nepal. Kanchenjunga and Makalu are also both eight thousanders peaks from the Eastern Part of Himalayas of Nepal. It has combination of low to high altitude trek through villages, River valleys, jungle and alpine forest walk and then snow covered high passes etc.

The journey begins from Kathmandu to Taplejung flight. Then, we trek through lovely Rai, Limbu, Sherpa, Gurung, Newar, Tamang and Tibetan settlement to reach North Base Camp of Kanchenjanga (Pang Pema) and Makalu region. Pang Pema offers views of mighty Kanchenjanga and its glacier exhibit some of the most impressive high mountain scenery in the Himalayas of Nepal.

Ghunsa and remote Olangchung Gola villages are connected by Nango La Pass. There is ancient Tibetan Buddhist monastery, village and traditionally woven Tibetan carpets in Olangchung Gola village.

We are heading to an adventurous high pass Lumba Sumba La from Olangchung Gola. It is a few days wilderness walk to reach often snow covered Lumba Sumba Pass that offers spectacular views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Makalu. Soon, we trek to Makalu Barun National Park that Nepal’s most diverse region with incredible varieties of flora and fauna. We finish our walking journey at Num by passing remote Hatiya/Bhote village. We catch bus from Num to Tumlingtar and fly back to Kathmandu on the following day.
