Manaslu Circuit with the Larkya Peak (6249m) Climbing is in some sections of the Great Himalayan Trail, Nepal. It is the best choice for beginner climbers who are looking for standard circuit trekking and peak climbing en route. The Manaslu area has been open to foreigners since 1992. The trek route takes to all the highlights of the Manaslu area’s cultural and natural exciting sites. There are newly built lodges serving trekkers and climbers on the trekking route. The camping food and equipment need only Larkya Peak Base Camp and High Camp while the climbs continue.

Two Larkya Peaks are locally known as Sano (small) Larkya (5807m) and Thulo (big) Larkya (6249m) in the Manaslu range. The climbers can climb both peaks from the High Camp at 5600m in a couple of days. Sano Larkya is a technical climb compared to Thulo Larkya Peak. It is a long day but an easy climb on the snow slopes of Thulo Larkya with stunning views of Mt. Manaslu (8163m), Himlung, Kangguru, and Annapurna II.

The walk begins from a low elevation along Buri Gandaki valley to high alpine with a circuit trekking in the Manaslu area. We make a day trip to mountain Manaslu Base Camp for acclimatization before pushing to Larkya Peak Base Camp. After the Larkya Peak climbing expedition, cross the Larkya La 5160m to reach Dharapani in the Annapurna region. This trip can complete within three weeks of the holiday length.

Day to day itinerary:

Please follow the cardboard of High Camp Trekking upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport. Our company representative helps you transfer to the Hotel. We explain things to do in Kathmandu.

All includes: Airport pick up, bed, and breakfast.
We explain each day's program and packing list for trekking and climbing. Today, we obtain Manaslu Circuit with the Larkya Peak climbing permit in Kathmandu. We take to you for a tour of the world heritage site Kathmandu Durbar Square (Hanuman Dhoka) in the afternoon.

All includes: Bed and breakfast.
Leaving Kathmandu, we travel on the Prithivi Highway couple of hours before we turn to Dhading. When we travel from Dhading toward Arughat, Gorkha, the road is rough and dirty through rural and remote areas. But, the views of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang range make up for the discomfort. After Arughat, we travel to Soti Khola through a pretty rugged road. We travel from Kathmandu to Soti Khola by private jeep (4W) because the road condition is poor in most of the sections.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
Leaving Machha Khola (Fish in River), the trail is through an under-construction road toward Khorlabesi. We come to cross many waterfalls en route. We take a quick break at Tatopani which is a hot spring at the entrance of the village. From here, we walk through a short forest path to reach Dobhan, a good lunch spot. Then, we head north to Shyauli. From here, the trail goes uphill sections and downs until we drop at Yaruphant. We cross a suspension bridge, climb over a ridge, trek along the river, and climb to reach the village of Jagat. Here, we enter the Manaslu Conservation Area.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
After the hiking passes were checked, we climb over a rocky ridge to reach Salleri and then descend to Sirdibas and Ghate Khola. We see many waterfalls and Shringi Himal en route. We descend to the river, cross the longest suspension bridge, and climb up through the pine forest to reach the village of Philim. It is the largest Gurung village where we take lunch. From here, we walk through millet fields to contact Ekle Bhatti (teashop). We descend to the bridge where the trail split to the right side remote Tsum valley trek for a week. But, we cross to the left and walk along the Budhi Gandaki River to enter the uninhabited gorge. After crossing the river twice, we climb through a bamboo forest to reach Deng. It is a tiny village but it has a nice lodge.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
This day, we pass through the small settlements of Rana, Bhi Phedi, and an impressive valley. We come to cross Mani Walls (Buddhist mantra carving on the stone) before we reach the village of Ghap which is a good lunch spot. We walk through a dense forest of fir, rhododendron, bamboo, and oaks and cross the bridge three times to reach Namrung. It is a solid Tibetan influence village. We make a tour of the town in the late afternoon.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
Leaving the village of Namrung, we walk through a wider valley and forest to reach the picturesque town of Lihi where we see several Stupas, barley, and millet fields. We see Simnang Himal and Ganesh Himal en en-route. Then, we descend to the river and gradually uphill lead us to the Tibetan village, Sho. Today’s walk is, even more, cultural and scenic when we pass through the villages of Lho and Shyala to reach Sama Gaon. There are monasteries to visit and Manaslu massif and Larkya Peak to see from en route. We stayed two nights at Sama Gaon for better acclimatization.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
After breakfast, we hike up to the old monastery – Pungyen Gomba which has splendid views of glaciers on the backdrop. We might see the Himalayan Thar (wild goat) en route. Then, we come back to the lodge for lunch. We will do a tour of the village in the afternoon.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and accommodation at the lodge.
Leaving Sama Goan, we make a side trip to Birendra Lake. It is a glacier Lake. From here, we descend to the Kermo Kharka which is the yak pastures and walk through juniper and birch forests upward to the village of Samdo. We cross small settlements, Mani Walls, and Yaks, and can see impressive views of the mountain Manaslu en route. Samdo has been a Tibetan refugee village since the 1950s. We see mountains in all directions from Samdo and not to be missed Sunset views!

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accoomdation at the lodge.
We do a day hike to one of the trade passes headed for Tibet. We see an excellent view of Manaslu, Simrang, Hiuchuli, Nadi Chuli, and Larkya Peak en route. We see a family of wild blue sheep grazing sometimes.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and accommodation at the lodge.
We pass through a wooden bridge over Budhi Gandaki to reach the deserted Larkya Bazaar (ruined Tibetan market). Then, we head up through Salka Khola valley to reach Larkya Phedi, also known as Dharmasala. We see Samdo Peak behind, the entire climbing route of the Manaslu summit on the left, and the Larkya glacier en route.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
Leaving Dharmasala, we hike up through the side of the Larkya glacier moraine trails to reach a small Lake in the large area of flat grassy ground before the Larkya La, which is the base camp of the Larkya Peak. From here, we see the stunning views of the Larkya Peak, which is our main goal as a climbing activity with Manaslu Circuit Trek.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the tent.
We cross the boulder fields and climb the Larkya glacier to reach the High Camp. The guide fixes the line/rope on the steep section approaching the High Camp and sets up the tent at the snow-covered ice fields at an elevation of 5650m. We see Thulo Larkya Peak (6249m) in the background of the camp. A High Camp needs two nights for those who prefer to attempt the Sano and Thulo Larkya Peaks individually.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the tent.
Even though at an altitude of 5807m of the Suno Larkya is more technical climbs than Thulo Larkya Peak. We start to push the summit of Thulo Larkya Peak early in the morning. The summit push is a long way through a gradual up and often has to break fresh snow en route. We see magnificent views of Manaslu and Annapurna ranges from the summit of the Thulo Larkya Peak. Then, we descend to High Camp for lunch and Base Camp overnight. It is the full-day adventure of a lifetime in the Manaslu region.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the tent.
An extra day comes in handy for waiting if the climber has to recover from AMS or the weather is not good for a final push to the summit of Larkya Peak. We make a decision at the right time. If the weather is good or the trip runs to schedule day by day, we do not use an extra day.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and accommodation at the tent.
Leaving BC, we walk across the moraines of the glacier, making a gradual ascent, which becomes steeper in the last section of the first Larkya La. From here, views are a wonderful panorama of peaks including Larkya Peak, Cheo Himal, and Hindu Peak and we can see the tip of mountain Himlung, Kangguru, and Annapurna II in the distance. Another 10 – 15 minutes of gradual up leads us to the second summit of Larkya La. From here, long and very steep descent starts. Actually, the descent is slippery because of the scree trail when there is no snow. If there is snow or ice, micro-spikes are handy for the descent. There is a landslide on some sections of the descent which we must cross carefully. From the middle part of the descent, we see Pongkar Tal (a blue-colored glacial Lake) below us. From Larche, the descent is a lot easier as we follow the valley to Bimthang.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
We follow the valley of the Burndin Khola until come across the Base Camp on the west side of Manaslu. We see excellent views of Manaslu to the South-east and Annapurna II to the South-west. We walk through the Kharka along the Dudh Khola and descend into the forest of birch and rhododendrons to reach Karche. From here, we follow the Dudh Khola valley and continue to descend through dense forests of fir and rhododendron to come across the village of Goa and Tilje en route. We walk on a dirt road to reach Dharapani from Tilje. Now, we join the Annapurna Circuit on the Manang.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and accommodation at the lodge.
We catch the jeep to travel from Dharapani to Besishar. When we travel by jeep on the Marshyandi River valley, we pass through several small settlements and waterfalls. We swift our luggage from jeep to Micro-bus upon arrival at Besishar and travel to Kathmandu on the same day.
