This captivating mountaineer attraction is an unforgettable journey through awe-inspiring landscapes. Discover the untouched beauty of the Himalayas, where pristine snow-capped peaks, lush vegetation, and breathtaking panoramas ignite a sense of adventure and tranquility within every mountaineer.

High Camp Trekking provides logistics and serves as the ultimate organizer of the Himlung Himal Expedition. Each step brings mountaineers closer to the allure of this Himalayan gem. Immerse yourself in nature’s grandeur and create lifelong memories as mountaineers traverse this enchanting wonderland.

Starting an adventure, we prepare for the expedition by obtaining the Himlung Himal climbing permits in Kathmandu. Once prepared, a long but scenic drive through Nepal’s countryside takes you to the village of Koto. It’s a busy place, as it is located on the Annapurna Circuit Trails.

The trails leading to the Nar Phu Valley branch off from Koto. We go through the Meta and Phu Villages. The trek through the Nar Phu Valley is already special as you pass by stone-walled houses and small villages located in remote areas and see the occasional herd of yaks grazing. The area’s people have strong Tibetan influence and are known for their hospitality and delicious organic cuisine. After Phu, the trail becomes more barren and steeper as it heads into the mountains. Our destination? Himlung Himal Base Camp. Its height? 4,900 meters or 16,076 feet! This will be our home for the coming weeks.

The real climbing of Mount Himlung Himal starts from the base camp. We spend time acclimatizing and training with crampons and ice axes. Good fitness and a proper ability to use crampons and ice axes are a must!

The climb from base camp to Camp I involves a long, steady ascent up a rocky, snowy trail. Camp I is set up at about 5,450 meters (17,881 feet). The view from here is already breathtaking! The next section, from Camp I to Camp II, is the steepest part of the climb. You will climb a long, steep slope of snow and ice, often at an angle of about 40 to 45 degrees. This requires careful footwork and a steady pace. Camp II is established at about 6,150 meters (20,177 feet). First, you will do an acclimatization rotation and descend to the Base Camp.

After a couple of days of rest and weather-checking, the summit push begins. The air is thin here, and every movement requires additional effort. Summit day starts very early, often around 1 am. You will climb up a long, rising ridge after Camp II. You must move slowly and consistently. As the sun rises, it will light up the most incredible panorama you have ever seen.

The final push to the summit is along a beautiful, narrow snow ridge. At 7,126 meters or 23,380 feet, you are standing on the summit of Himlung Himal. The feeling is impossible to describe. It is a mix of overwhelming joy, personal accomplishment, and deep respect for the mountain you just conquered.

After enjoying the summit moment, taking photos and videos, you will begin the long but happy descent back to Camp II. Then, eventually, all the way back to the warmth and safety of base camp!

After a celebration at base camp, we pack everything up and begin the trek back. Walking down the same trail feels different now. The villages seem more familiar, and you can walk at a relaxed pace, enjoying the beauty without the pressure of the climb ahead! At the end, we trek back to the road, then drive back to Kathmandu.
