The Annapurna Sanctuary Trek route is one of the most popular treks in the Annapurna region. The trail goes through villages, Rhododendron trees, and different landscapes with views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
We combine this trek with three highlights: Poon Hill, Annapurna Base Camp, and Jhinu Hot Spring. Poon Hill is a famous viewpoint offering sunrise views of the panoramic Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Annapurna Base Camp offers a 360-degree view of the towering Annapurna range, featuring peaks ranging from 6,000 m to 8,091 m. It lies in the heart of the Annapurna range. We head to Jhinu Hot Spring, located on the banks of the Modi River, and enjoy the natural hot spring bath.
Annapurna Sanctuary is also known as the Annapurna’s South Base Camp Trek. In spring (March to May), rhododendron flowers bloom colourfully at elevations from 1400m to 3300m en route. Machhapuchhare (Fishtail 6993m) is the most attractive mountain and the trekker’s favourite mountain in the Himalayas of Nepal.
We see Langurs (monkeys) around Tadapani and the Modi Khola Valley, between Sinuwa and Doban, as well as domestic animals on the trail. Many types of birds sing en route early in the morning and evening. We see the daily activity of the locals in the Ulleri, Chhumrung, Sinuwa, Landruk, and Dhampus villages.
There are a few avalanche sections between the Himalayas and Machhapuchhare Base Camp. We do have the latest information on trial conditions. From January to March, ABC experiences fresh snow encounters.
In 1952, the French expedition successfully climbed Mount Annapurna I (8091m) on the North route. Annapurna I was the first 8,000-meter peak to be climbed successfully. The ascent of the Annapurna South’s face is more challenging and dangerous.
The Annapurna Sanctuary Trek has several different trailheads and ending points. It takes 8 to 12 days to complete. We end the trek at Dhampus Phedi. From Phedi, we travel to Pokhara by taxi or bus. Pokhara is the second largest city in Nepal, and we can spend a couple of days relaxing there. In the end, we travel from Pokhara to Kathmandu by tourist bus.
