Mera Peak Climbing is a popular 6k mountaineering activity in Nepal. It lies within the Mahalangur Himalayan range and certain sections of Makalu Barun National Park. It has three summits: Mera South (6,065 m), Mera Central (6,470 m), and Mera North (6,476 m). Nowadays, Mera Central Peak is famous for climbing.
The Mera Peak Climbing route is an alpine PD featuring ascending snow and glacier slopes that rarely exceed 30 degrees. It is an ideal peak for trekking and climbing for beginners, with an elevation of over 6,000 m in the Himalayas. The summit offers unparalleled stunning panoramic views of the eight-thousanders, including Mount Everest (8,848 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Makalu (8,463 m), Cho Oyu (8,201 m), and Kanchenjunga (8,586 m). The Mera North (6476m) is a technical climb compared to Central and South Peaks.
A safe acclimatisation rule is key to the success of Mera Peak Climbing. We carefully design day-by-day itineraries for safe acclimatisation during the Mera Peak Trekking, ensuring a gradual approach to the summit.
The journey begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. We walk through a beautiful Rai and Sherpa ethnicity village and Rhododendron jungle to the high alpine environment. It’s a circular trek off the beaten path in the Inkhu and Hinku valleys.
The high-altitude lakes (Tama and Panch Pokhari) are exciting sights to see en route. Panch Pokhari hosts an annual festival on Janai Purnima, the full moon in August. Do not miss the Sunrise and sunset views from the Mera High Camp and Panch Pokhari while on the trek.
The Makalu-Barun National Park is home to rhododendrons, pine, juniper trees, and a variety of rare plants. Snow leopards, red pandas, Himalayan Thars, Wild boars, and Pheasants can also be spotted there.
The Everest British Expedition group explored the Mera region after the ascent of Mt. Everest in 1953. Col. Jimmy Roberts and Sen Tenzing climbed the Mera Central Peak (6470m) for the first time on May 20, 1953.
