Pikey Peak Cultural Trek offers a moderate, lodge-based trail in a peaceful area. From Pikey Peak (4,067 meters), sunrise and sunset over the Himalayas are the main attractions. You can see Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Ama Dablam, and the deep valleys to the south. Sir Edmund Hillary once said that his favourite view of Mount Everest (8,848.86 meters) was from Pikey Peak (4,067 meters). The best times to go are March to May and September to February.

A July festival is another attraction. During this time, the Sherpa community believes their clan god is present at Pikey Peak, and locals come together to worship. Plan your trek for July if you want to respectfully join these traditional rituals.

Thupten Choling Monastery in Junebesi is another attraction of the Pikey Peak Cultural Trek. It was built by His Holiness Trulsik Rinpoche in the 1960s after leaving Tibet. Home to about 300 monks, the monastery operates independently. Trekkers can observe daily rituals and experience the peaceful spiritual atmosphere. Before joining prayer sessions, check the prayer schedule on the noticeboard, consult a monk or staff member, or ask your guide. Remove your shoes before entering prayer halls and ask permission before taking photos during prayers. Follow the monks’ instructions to respect their culture. The monks are generally welcoming and willing to convey insights about their way of life.

Each August, the full moon marks the Shaman dance festival at Dudh Kunda Lake, located at the base of Numbur Himal. Spiritual dances and ceremonies bring the area to life. Plan your trek for the August full moon to experience this event.

The optimal trekking seasons for the Pikey Peak region are March to May and September to November. During these months, the trek features a wide range of Himalayan flora and fauna. You may see yaks grazing near Pikey Peak, and between April and May, five rhododendron species flower in the forests, beautifying the scenery.

The Pikey Peak Cultural Trek begins in either Dhap or Bhumdi Bhandar, both of which are reached by road from Kathmandu. Gaurishankar Conservation Area hiking pass is necessary if you start the trek from Bhumdi Bhandar. From here, the trek passes through villages and ancient Buddhist sites, offering impressive views of the Himalayas. After the trek ends, daily buses from Phaplu or Salleri to Kathmandu take about 9 to 10 hours along scenic, hilly roads. Tara and Summit Air operate direct flights between Phaplu and Kathmandu twice weekly. Let us know if you are looking for a flight from Phaphlu to Kathmandu at the end of the trek.

Day to day itinerary:

Please check the High Camp Trekking cardboard upon arrival at Kathmandu International Airport. Our company representative will help you get to the hotel.

Includes: Bed and breakfast with tea or coffee.
We explain each day's trek program and provide a packing list of trekking equipment. We obtain hiking passes and buy bus tickets. We also take you on a tour of the World Heritage Site, Sawayambunath (Monkey Temple).

Includes: Bed and breakfast with tea or coffee.
After breakfast, we will go to the bus station at 6:00 AM. The bus leaves Kathmandu at 7:00 AM. The road from Jiri to Bhundi Bandar winds east and north from Kathmandu about 200m via the Araniko and Lamosangu—Ramechhap Highway. When driving from Kathmandu to Bhumdi Bandar, we pass through villages, paddy fields, the Sun Koshi and Bhote Koshi River valley, and Jiri. It is a mix of pitched and dirty road driving, which takes 8 hours.

Includes: Accommodation at the teahouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner with tea or coffee.
Today is the longest trek day, with mixed down and uphill walking. We descend to Likhu Khola (River) in the morning. The Likhu Khola is at the border of Ramechhap and Solu-Khumbu district - the home of the Sherpa ethnic and Mt. Everest. After crossing the river, we ascend to Chaula Kharka, where we take an hour-long break for lunch. From here, we continue to climb to Gomba Danda through villages and Rhododendron trees. There are two monasteries at Gomba Danda, which will be visited upon arrival.

Includes: Accommodation at the teahouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner with tea or coffee.
Leaving Gomba Danda village, we ascend through the Rhododendron forest toward Ngaur (3350m), which has a teashop, a Nepal Government-owned Yak cheese factory, and a monastery. From here, you walk gradually uphill through the Pine and Rhododendrons forest to reach Pikey Peak Base Camp. We could see Mt. Gaurishanker, Nambur Himal, Mani walls (carving mantras), prayer flags, birds, wild animals, and yak en route.

Includes: Accommodation at the teahouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner with tea or coffee.
We head up to Pikey Peak viewpoint at 5:00 AM. From Base Camp, it's a gradual uphill walk to reach Pikey Peak in an hour. It is the highlight of the trek because we can see Sunrise and long panoramic views of the Himalayas from Annapurna to Kanchenjunga ranges, including Mt. Everest from the top of the Pikey Peak at elevation 4067m. We descend to Base Camp for breakfast and pack the bag. After breakfast, we head to Jasmane Bhanjyang through the Rhododendron forest.

Includes: Accommodation at the teahouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner with tea or coffee.
After breakfast, we ascend through the ridge toward Lamajura. We could see close views of Mt. Numbur Himal (6969m) and Mt. Everest before the short-cut trail branch of Taktor village through the dense forest of fire birch, pine, and rhododendrons. We pass the Sherpa villages and monasteries en route and see the daily life of Sherpas from Taktor to Junbesi village. We take a tour of monasteries, Stupas, and schools in Junbesi, a typical Sherpa village.

Includes: Accommodation at the teahouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner with tea or coffee.
After breakfast, a two-hour gradual uphill walk leads us to Thupten Choling monastery, which Trulisik Rinpoche founded in the 1960s after fleeing Tibet. Now, it is an institution of 300 monks and nuns (80% of whom are Tibetan refugees). His Holiness is very precious; he is one of the Dalai Lama's primary teachers. We are back to Junbesi for lunch, and the afternoon is free time.

Includes: Accommodation at teahouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner with tea or coffee.
Leaving Junbesi, we walk downhill and uphill through trekking trails and rough roads to reach Phaplu. En route, we could see Mt. Numbur Himal, Stupas, mani walks, and the daily life of locals. After lunch, we went to Saleri Bazaar, which held a Saturday market.

Includes: Accommodation at teahouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner with tea or coffee.
Salleri—Phaplu is connected by road and air transport from Kathmandu. We catch the bus early in the morning. This is a very scenic drive through the middle hills of Nepal. We pass several villages and Himalayan River valleys and have breakfast and lunch en route. It is a full day of driving, which gives you more opportunities to see Nepal.

Includes: Breakfast and lunch, and dinner with tea or coffee.
Kathmandu has many interesting cultural Heritage sites. You can tour the Great Boudhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple.

Includes: Bed and Breakfast.
Our company representative will drop you at Kathmandu Airport on a time flight back home.
