Step onto the legendary Manaslu Circuit Trek, where ancient Himalayan trails await. This route immerses you in authentic Nepali and Tibetan culture, renowned hospitality, and spectacular views of the Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, and Annapurna ranges. From culture to mountain vistas to physical fitness, it offers trekkers everything they might want from a Himalayan adventure.

Experience the scenic Manaslu Circuit, a classic trek tracing parts of Nepal’s Great Himalayan Trail. This trek lets us circle the mighty Manaslu I (8,163 meters), the world’s eighth-highest peak. The walks start from a low elevation of around 700m. The landscapes vary widely, from lush green countryside and forests to spectacular high-altitude terrain that skirts massive glaciers. Along the Budhi Gandaki River valley trail, we see an exciting mix of authentic Hindu and Tibetan-style Buddhist villages.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek itinerary includes visits to Pung Gyen Gompa and Manaslu Base Camp. At 5160m, Larkya La serves as a mountain pass connecting the Gorkha and Manang districts. From the trek’s highest point, trekkers are treated to stunning views of the Annapurna range. Descending through glacier crossings from Larkya La to Bimthang can prove challenging, particularly when snow is present.

Passing through Gorkha, home to the legendary Gorkha soldiers, the route follows the Budhi Gandaki River Valley, winding toward the Larkya La (5,106 meters) pass. Beyond it lies the Manang district of the Annapurna Conservation Area. Picture yourself witnessing the majestic Himalayan ranges, high-altitude glacier lakes, and the area’s rich biological and cultural diversity. Within these two protected conservation areas, trekkers encounter diverse habitats, teeming with many rare plant and animal species.

Although the trailhead for the Manaslu Circuit Trek is easily accessible by bus or jeep, relatively few people make the journey. This is partly because the trek lies in a restricted area bordering Tibet. Manaslu trekking permits are only available through a registered trekking agency.

Itinerary (day to day):

Please follow the cardboard of High Camp Trekking upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport. Our company representative will help you get to the hotel. We explain things to do in Kathmandu.

All includes: Airport pick up, bed, and breakfast.
We explain each day's program and packing list for the Manaslu Circuit Trek and obtain trekking permits in Kathmandu. In the afternoon, we take you on a tour of the world heritage site Kathmandu Durbar Square (Hanuman Dhoka).

All includes: Bed and breakfast.
Leaving Kathmandu, we travel on the Prithivi Highway for a few hours before we turn to Dhading. When we travel from Dhading toward Arughat, Gorkha, the road is rough and dirty and runs through rural and remote areas. But, the views of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang range make up for the discomfort. After Arughat, we travel to Soti Khola through a pretty rugged road. We travel from Kathmandu to Soti Khola by private jeep (4W) because the road condition is poor in most of the sections.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accoomdation at the lodge.
Leaving Machha Khola (Fish in River), the trail is through an under-construction road toward Khorlabesi. We come to cross many waterfalls en route. We take a quick break at Tatopani, a hot spring at the village entrance. From here, we walk down a short forest path to reach Dobhan, a good lunch spot. Then, we head north to Shyauli. From here, the trail goes uphill sections and downs until we drop at Yaruphant. We cross a suspension bridge, climb over a ridge, trek along the river, and climb to reach the village of Jagat. Here, we enter the Manaslu Conservation Area.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
After the hiking passes were checked, we climbed a rocky ridge to reach Salleri and descended to Sirdibas and Ghate Khola. We see many waterfalls and Shringi Himal en route. We descend to the river, cross the longest suspension bridge, and climb up through the pine forest to reach the village of Philim. It is the largest Gurung village where we take lunch. From here, we walk through millet fields to reach Ekle Bhatti (teashop). We descend to the bridge where the trail splits to the right side of the remote Tsum Valley trek for a week. But we cross to the left and walk along the Budhi Gandaki River to enter the uninhabited gorge. After crossing the river twice, we climb through a bamboo forest to reach Deng. It is a tiny village, but it has a lovely lodge.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and accommodation at the lodge.
This day, we pass through the small settlements of Rana, Bhi Phedi, and an impressive valley. We come to cross Mani Walls (Buddhist mantra carving on the stone) before we reach the village of Ghap, which is a good lunch spot. We walk through a dense forest of fir, rhododendron, bamboo, and oaks and cross the bridge three times to reach Namrung. It is a strong Tibetan influence village. We take a tour of the village in the late afternoon.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
Leaving the village of Namrung, we walk through a more expansive valley and forest to reach the picturesque village of Lihi, where we see several Stupas, barley, and millet fields. We see Simnang Himal and Ganesh Himal en en-route. Then, we descend to the river, which gradually climbs uphill and leads us to the Tibetan village, Sho. Today’s walk is even more cultural and scenic when we pass through the villages of Lho and Shyala to reach Sama Gaon. There are monasteries to visit, such as Manaslu Massif and Larkya Peak, which you can see en route. We are staying two nights at Sama Gaon to acclimate better.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
After breakfast, we hike up to the old monastery, Pungyen Gomba, which has splendid views of glaciers on the backdrop. En route, we might see the Himalayan Thar (wild goat). Then, we come back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we tour the village.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and accommodation at the lodge.
Leaving Sama Goan, we make a side trip to Birendra Lake, a glacier Lake. From here, we descend to the Kermo Kharka, the yak pastures, and walk through juniper and birch forests upward to the village of Samdo. We cross small settlements, Mani Walls, and Yaks and can see impressive views of the mountain Manaslu en route. Samdo has been a Tibetan refugee village since the 1950s. We see mountains in all directions from Samdo, and sunset views are not to be missed!

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
We do a day hike to one of the trade passes headed for Tibet. En route, we see an excellent view of Manaslu, Simrang, Hiuchuli, Nadi Chuli, and Larkya Peak. We also sometimes see a family of wild blue sheep grazing.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and accommodation at the lodge.
We pass through a wooden bridge over Budhi Gandaki to reach the deserted Larkya Bazaar (a ruined Tibetan market). Then, we head up through Salka Khola valley to reach Larkya Phedi, also known as Dharmasala. We see Samdo Peak behind, the entire climbing route of the Manaslu summit on the left, and the Larkya glacier en route.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation at the lodge.
Leaving Dharmasala, we hike up through the side of the Larkya glacier moraine trails to reach a small Lake in the large area of flat grassy ground. Then, we walk across the moraines of the glacier, making a gradual ascent, which becomes steeper in the last section of the first Larkya La. From here, the view is of a beautiful panorama of peaks, including Larkya Peak, Cheo Himal, and Hindu Peak, and we can see the tip of mountain Himlung, Kangguru, and Annapurna II in the distance. Another 10 – 15 minutes of gradual up leads us to the second summit of Larkya La (5106m). From here, a long and very steep descent starts. The descent is slippery because of the scree trail when there is no snow. If there is snow or ice, micro-spikes are handy for the descent. There is a landslide on some of the descent, which we must cross carefully. From the middle part of the descent, we see Pongkar Tal (a blue-colored glacial Lake) below us. From Larche, the descent is much easier as we follow the valley to Bimthang.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner and accoomdation at the lodge.
We follow the valley of the Burdin Khola until we come across the Base Camp on the west side of Manaslu. We see excellent views of Manaslu to the southeast and Annapurna II to the southwest. We walk through the Kharka along the Dudh Khola and descend into the forest of birch and rhododendrons to reach Karcher. From here, we follow the Dudh Khola valley and descend through dense fir and rhododendron forests to come across the village of Goa and Tilje en route. We walk on a dirt road from Tilje to reach Dharapani. Now, we join the Annapurna Circuit on the Manang.

All includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and accommodation at the lodge.
We catch the jeep to travel from Dharapani to Besishar. When we travel by jeep on the Marshyandi River valley, we pass through several small settlements and waterfalls. Upon arrival at Besishar, we swiftly transferred our luggage from the jeep to the Micro-bus and traveled to Kathmandu the same day.
