The Langtang Valley Trek is in Langtang National Park, located north of Kathmandu and bordering Tibet. It is one of the most easily accessible trekking destinations in Nepal, offering a moderate-to-challenging trek. The walk is popular for its beautiful valley, the Glacier River, various Rhododendron forests, Yaks, Red Pandas, Langurs (also known as grey monkeys), Himalayan Thars (also known as mountain goats), Snow Leopards, and wild dogs.

Mount Langtang Lirung (7234 meters) is the park’s highest peak, towering above the surrounding valley. Besides Langtang Lirung, other notable peaks include Gangchhempo, Dorje Lakpa, Langsisa Ri, Yubra Himal, Naya Khang, and Yala Peak.

The Langtang Valley Trek begins from Syafrubesi, a day’s drive from Kathmandu. It passes through Langtang village to reach Kyanjin Gompa. Half of Langtang village was washed away when avalanches hit from the mountain Langtang Lirung in the April 2015 earthquake. The Village was rebuilt and is now known as New Langtang, where lodges offer accommodation.

We tour the Gompa (monastery) and the Yak cheese factory in Kyanjin Village. The factory started as a Swiss project in 1955. Do not miss the Sunset over Mount Gangchhempo in the evening! We can also take a day hike to Langsisa Kharka, and on the Ganja La side. A small glacier Lake is the nearest hike from Kyanjin Village. Til Man and Ganja La (mountain pass) connect the Langtang Helambu region. These high passes are challenging for trekking.

We climb Kyanjin or Tsergo Ri (4984m) in the remote upper part of Langtang, one of the best viewpoints in Langtang National Park. We spent a second night at Kynjin Gomba and then descended to Lama Hotel just as we had hiked up. From Lama Hotel, we trek to the villages of Sherpa Gaon and Khangjim before we head down to Syafrubesi. We travel back to Kathmandu by bus or jeep.

Itinerary (day by day):

Our company representative will meet you at the Kathmandu International Airport and take you to the hotel. We will briefly discuss exciting places to see in Kathmandu.

Meals includes: Airport transfer, bed and breakfast at the Hotel.
We will brief you about daily trek schedules and help you obtain Langtang National Park hiking passes. In the afternoon, we take you on a tour of the world heritage site Sawayambunath (monkey temple).

Meals includes: bed and breakfast at the Hotel.
After breakfast, we go to a public jeep station from the Hotel. We start our drive at about 7:00 AM and reach Trishuli Bazaar for lunch. From here, the road is zig-zag to reach the Kalikasthan army check post and continue to the Dhunche National Park hiking passes check post through the gravel road around the Ramche landslide area in the rainy season. From Dhunche, we first see Mt. Langtang Lirung (7234m). Then, the road goes downhill to reach Syafrubesi, where we spend a night.

Meals includes: breakfast, lunch. and dinner with tea/coffee.
After registering hiking passes at the police check post in Syafrubesi, we cross the Bhote Khosi (river), walk through villages, and then follow the Langtang Khola (upstream) to reach Bamboo for lunch. The trail goes uphill to Lama Hotel (the place's name) through the forest of Bamboo, pine, birch, oak, and Rhododendrons. We see beehives on cliffs, many birds, roaming Langurs (monkeys) on trees, and sometimes a Red Panda en route.

Meals includes: breakfast, lunch. and dinner with tea/coffee.
The trail follows the Langtang Khola (upstream) and past the forest, with occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung between the trees. There are two teashops and hiking passes check posts at Ghoda Tabela, where there are views of Langtang Lirung, too. Next, the trail goes gently uphill to reach the village of Thanshyap, where we have a lunch break. We come across proper Yaks en route. We cross the landslide of a vast rock field to reach a New Langtang village, reminding us of the Earthquake in 2015.

Meals includes: breakfast, lunch. and dinner with tea/coffee.
The trail climbs gradually uphill and passes through the longest Mani wall (the mantras are carved on stone) to reach the twin villages of Mandum and Sindum. From here, we walk through yak pastures to get to Kyanjin Gomba. In the afternoon, we tour Kyanjin Gomba (monastery) and the Nepal government-owned Yak cheese factory at Kyanjin Gomba. The sunset views over Langtang from Kyanjiin Gomba, where we spent two nights, are stunning.

Meals includes: breakfast, lunch. and dinner with tea/coffee.
Today, we climb to viewpoints (Kyanjin or Tsergo Ri) on the Langtang’s upper part to enjoy the dramatic landscapes. Due to elevation, it is easier to climb Kyanjin Ri (4773m) than Tsergo Ri (4984m). After spending half an hour at the top of the viewpoint, we head back down to Kyanjin Gomba, where we spend a second night.

Meals includes: breakfast, lunch. and dinner with tea/coffee.
We start retracing our footsteps by following the Langtang Khola and passing through Langtang village to reach the Lama Hotel. The trail downhill to Lama Hotel is faster than the ascent.

Meals includes: breakfast, lunch. and dinner with tea/coffee.
We take the high route from Rimche to the villages of Sherpagoan and Khangjim. These villages have spectacular views of Ganesh Himal, and we can see the Himalayan Thar (mountain goats) en route. From Khangjim, we retrace our footsteps to Syafrubesi.

Meals includes: breakfast, lunch. and dinner with tea/coffee.
We drive back to Kathmandu from Syafrubesi, bypassing the countryside and Trishuli bazaar.

Meals includes: breakfast and lunch with tea/coffee.
Today, you can go shopping or sightseeing at a cultural heritage site in Kathmandu.

Meals includes: bed and breakfast at the Hotel.
Our company representative drops you at the Kathmandu Airport in time for the flight back home.
The Trek itinerary can be changed for an exciting side trip and additional acclimatization day if needed while on the trek.
