International Everest Day is observed on May 29th each year to commemorate the date when Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary successfully conquered the world’s highest peak in 1953. Various activities are held on this day in the Kathmandu and Everest regions.

Government officials, Mountaineers, Travelers, and general people participated in the Kathmandu rally. The participants displayed placards honoring Mt. Everest and urging relevant agencies to mitigate the risks posed by global warming in the Himalayas.

Mountain Everest (8848.86m), known locally as Sagarmatha in Nepal and Qomolangma in Tibet.

The Tenzing Hillary Marathon, held on International Everest Day, May 29th each year, is a 42 km run from Everest Base Camp to Namche Bazaar. It commemorates the historical ascent of Mt. Everest. Runners from around the world are invited to participate in the marathon.
