Rolwaling is an isolated valley located on the east-west side just below Mt. Gaurishankar (7145 m) towards the southern Tibetan border. Mt. Gaurishankar is known as Jomo Tersingma by Sherpas. It has two summits, the northern (higher) summit being called Shankar (a manifestation of Lord Shiva) and the southern summit being called Gauri ( a manifestation of Shiva’s consort – Parvati).

Rolwaling valley trek gives us the opportunity to stay and witness and learn more about the rich Tamang and Sherpa culture. It includes two famous peaks of Ramdung (5930m) and Parchemouche (6187m). While trekking through the valleys of Rolwaling, we go through the beautiful farmland of Bhote Kosi and Sun Kosi valleys, the alpine valley, and the glacial lakes of the upper Rolwaling region.

The snow-fed glacial lake of Tsho-Rolpo Lake gives us a unique experience in this pristine valley of Rolwaling. It is one of the biggest glacier lakes in Nepal at an elevation of 4850m. The lake has a maximum length of 3.45km and a width of 0.5km and also an average depth of 55meters.

The trek begins with a scenic Kathmandu – Lhasa highway drive to the ancient trading town – Barabise. We trek through the dense, gloomy primitive forests and broad ridges backed with wonderful views of surrounding mountain peaks like Chekigo (6257m), Kang Nachugo (6737m), Chuyima Go (6258m), Ramdung Peak (5930m), and Parchemuche (6273m). The Rolwaling trek leads through one of the most remote, beautiful, and unexplored parts of Nepal in Sherpa, Tamang, and Chettri villages.

We do adventure over dizzy suspension bridges, impressive gorges, and steep paths. We hear romantic stories about the Yeti from locals. This valley is enriched with both Hindu and Buddhist Mythology.
